Children’s Hospital at Westmead Presentation – Darren & Shane
Hi Everyone,
Last Wednesday we presented the last of the donation cheques raised from our expedition to Mt Aconcagua and Mt Elbrus to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. It was really and emotional morning as we met some of the children that would benefit from the generous donations that were received in the support of our recent expedition.
Tianna (photo attached) is 4 and is waiting for a liver transplant on the priority 1 list. She was so gorgeous, a little apprehensive about the attention at first, but then she came out of her shell. There is a lot that goes through your mind at that moment. Tianna is a beautiful little girl, and at that moment you feel that life is just not fair. Someone so young with their whole life ahead of them with their life basically hanging in the balance, it was a very heart wrenching moment. What was obvious though, was how joyful and playful Tianna was, smiling and laughing as she showed Shane and I how to play Monkey’s in a Barrel. Shane and I agreed that we would climb the mountains again 10 times if it would change Tianna’s life tomorrow – she touched our hearts.
Mahmoud (photo attached) is 17 and has just had a transplant. Mahmoud has some big goals ahead of him with playing Rugby League, but he also wants to complete a full marathon. He has a very positive outlook on life and is ready to take life by the scruff of the neck after his medical set back. Mahmoud presented us with a token of thanks which Shane and I were truly humbled by.
It is moments like these that can really put life into perspective. I have always said in doing the ‘7 Summits’, Shane and I are no the brave ones, it is these children and their parents that face the daily battles and the uncertainty through little choice of their own.
Shane and I are putting together the logistic for our next expedition to Denali (Alaska). We are hoping to raise funds to purchase a piece of vital lifesaving equipment for the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
We would like to thank you again for your generous support and glad that we can show you that your help goes a long way towards making a difference to the lives of beautiful children like Tianna and Mahmoud.
Best wishes
Darren & Shane

These guys are the best! You won’t see people like them because they are special! They are true people who have a big heart! If someone deserves some help to get their goals in life…these two deserves it because they do it for a cause. I’m with you brother!

How is she now?
I sent an email to the hospital the other day to see how Tianna is progressing.
I will keep you posted on her progress.
Thank you for caring.
Warmest regards
Darren
This is so awesome you guys. I am going to share this with as many people as possible. More people should be aware of your contributions.
There’s no perfect word to describe how much generous these mountaineers are. They made everything possible for those poor children. They just add the brightest light on their dark journey.
Any update about Mahmoud? Had he started reaching for his dreams? I heard that he loves playing Rugby League. I want to keep my eyes close to that child. I know he can be better in the future. He will be like Darren and his team who never stop helping and inspiring people.
This is the true meaning of love. Be proud and always keep your support to those who are on top while never stop lifting up those who still remain on the ground.
I may not be rich and can’t help you guys financially but I promise to help you in any way I could. I was so impressed on how you’ve done all of this. This is so wonderful!
