Make-A-Wish® Australia – help grant the wishes of children and young people with life threatening medical conditions

Make-A-Wish Australia grants the wishes of seriously-ill children and young people, providing hope, strength and joy when they are needed most. Each year, hundreds of children and teenagers across Australia are affected by life-threatening conditions. Beyond their illness, these children all share a common bond – they all have wishes and hopes for the future. They wish to be doctors and fire-fighters, to go to exotic places or their ancestral homelands. They wish to meet their sports heroes or the world’s most influential business people. Some children wish to have a laptop computer, and others wish for a pet they can share their time and love with. Through the Mt Kilimanjaro Charity Challenge, Peak Potential Charity Adventures will be supporting Make-A-Wish®by raising funds to make wishes come true for those who need them most. We look forward to sharing the enriching work of Make-A-Wish with you.

“Walking into Unknown”

19/10/2012

Sometimes it doesn’t feel right, sometimes it feels frightening, but what is actually more frightening, is not trying and having to live with it.

Photo was taken on the descent of Mt McKinley (Denali) in Alaska July 2011.

“Just Keep Walking”

29/09/2012

“Sometimes you don’t quite know where you are walking to, but it you just keep walking, you will finally get there”. Walking out from our Mt Aconcagua (Argentina) expedition in March 2010. Mt Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere at a hight of just under 23,000 feet.

“Between a Rock and a Hard Place”

15/09/2012

Shane is blending in nicely on the rock in this photo with the beautiful south face of Mt Aconcagua, which is in Argentina in the background. We were pretty tired at this point after battled the aftermath of the Chile earth quakes just days before to even get to this point in the expedition…..but that is another story. For us, this was just the beginning of our adventure in trying to reach the summit of this great mountain, which stands almost 23,000 feet high and is the highest mountain outside of the Himalayas. Mt Aconcagua was going to be number 2 in our 7 Summits quest.

After climbing Mt Aconcagua, we were going to rest for about a week and head over to Russia to attempt to summit Mt Elbrus. It was going to work out that with the 2 mountains that we would have climbed over 45,000 feet and travelled 27,000 miles around the world in 5 weeks to complete both mountains. I can tell you by the end of the expedition, we were very tired.

Amazing Summit Ridge – Denali (Mt McKinley) Alaska

14/07/2012

“It is sometime hard to see the light until you have walked in the darkness.” Corporatemonk

This photo was taken by our teammate Erik of the summit ridge on Denali (Mt McKinley) which is the highest mountain in North America and is located in Alaska. Our altitude on the summit ridge was around 20,320ft. Denali is considered by some climbers to be the coldest mountain on Earth. To make it on to the summit ridge, there is a steep snow covered hill called “Pig Hill,” and it does live up to its name.

“In Natures Playground” – Denali, Alaska

17/06/2012

This photo certainly gives you some perspective of the size of Mt McKinley (Denali) in Alaska. This mountain is so large that it has its own weather system. This is nature at its pristine best….untouched wilderness. If you look closely you can see 14,000ft camp below on the plateau. This was on our way up to 17,000ft camp. It was an awesome day as you can see, totally blissful and there was no other place we would rather have been at the time, but we may have changed our minds a few times during the expedition though. :0)
